Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak & On Blending Styles For New Music + More

Silk Sonic also known as Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, is out with a new song ‘Leave The Door Open.’ The duo sat down with The Breakfast Club to talk about the ‘darkness’ before they came together, Mars being accused of cultural appropriation and a Verzuz with The Weeknd?

“We’re just some honest musicians that still play music, when you find that you just gotta link up,” .Paak says on how the two came to be Silk Sonic. “We were on tour together, he put me onto music, I put him onto music. Wrote some songs that ended up on this tour. This quarantine I called him up to come to the studio,” Mars added. How did the name ‘Silk Sonic’ come about? Bootsy Collins. “He’s going to be narrating this whole album, Bootsy Collins," .Paak explains, “You can’t really question the OG’s. You only get a few moments with them, so you just gotta roll with that. It sounded cool when he said it.”

Before coming together though, Mars describes a ‘darkness’ he felt while trying to create new music. “I’ve been very fortunate to be around for awhile, and I’ve written some songs I’m really proud of,” Mars shares. “At a certain point, it only gets harder and harder. I know if I can’t top ‘That’s What I Like’, ‘When I was Your Man’, why am I doing this anymore.” Mars continues, “I’m always searching for, what’s going to make me proud of it. It’s hard to explain Charlamagne.”

The real question is… who is Mars going to battle? .Paak and Mars were contemplating doing a Verzuz or an album. “I think this is funner and we can stretch it out,” the two say on the subject. But who would Mars battle? “I would go toe to toe with anybody!” He confidently declares. When asked about a Verzuz with The Weeknd, Mars jokingly responds “Toe to Toe Charlamagne, you heard me the first time!” He continues the joke, “Don’t do that Charlamagne, we know what you doing.”
