2018 BET Hip Hop Awards: Cardi B Wins, Vic Mensa Disses XXXTentacion & More

From Cardi B's military-esque performance to Vic Mensa's XXXtentacion diss, the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards brought all kinds of buzzworthy moments. For the Tuesday (October 16) broadcast of the show, the very best in the genre came together to celebrate all that is hip-hop and the list of highlights from the ceremony is a lengthy one. Besides the aforementioned, Lil Pump kicked off the show, Lil Wayne accepted the annual I Am Hip Hop Award and Deray Davis led the ceremony as host at the Jackie Gleason Theater at Fillmore Miami Beach. Cardi B Owns The Stage With 'Get Up 10' and 'Backin' It Up'

Not only was she one of the big winners of the night for snagging titles like MVP of the Year, Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse, Made-You-Look Award (Best Hip Hop Style) and Hustler of the Year, but Cardi B took to the ceremony with a militaristic performance of "Get Up 10" and "Backin' It Up" with Pardison Fontaine.

Vic Mensa Lets Loose On XXXtentacion During Cypher

During the last of the cyphers, Vic Mensa seemingly let loose on XXX and a few others atop N.O.R.E.'s "Banned From TV" beat played by DJ Premier. "Only time you bear arms is in a wife beater, loser/ Your favorite rapper's a domestic abuser," Mensa spit. Among the other verses during the cypher included G Herbo, Taylor Bennett and Nick Grant.

XXXTentacion's Mom Accepts His Best New Hip-Hop Artist Award

On a positive note, XXX's mom did appear to accept the award for her son's Best New Hip-Hop Artist honor. "I am honored to accept this award on his behalf," Cleopatra Bernard said as she attempted to hold back tears. "I want to thank his fans for their undying love and support. Jah, this one’s for you, baby."

Weezy Wins The Coveted I Am Hip Hop Award

Lil Wayne is a rap legend and the ceremony recognized that when he was presented with the I Am Hip Hop Award. After a video introduction with Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz, Weezy took to the stage with his mother Jacida Carter and his daughter Reginae Carter. 

"I must give this award to the people who refused," Weezy said. "What I mean by that is the people who refused to stop supporting me during all the...you already know. The people who refused to see me as haven't put an album out in six years, four years. You guys respected me, you guys supported me. You came to every show. You respected every album, every feature. My family. My family refused, refused to stop motivating me. To stop treating me as if I am not the man. As if I am not the father who I am. As if I am not the person who I am. They refused to let me feel anything less. Please give it up to my family."

Anderson .Paak Pays Tribute To Mac Miller

Tribute to  Mac Miller during the show arrived in the form of a eulogy delivered by his good friend Anderson .Paak. "Legends never die and Mac Miller not was, but is, a whole legend," the rapper said on stage, wearing a shirt with the late MC's 2018 album artwork, Swimming. Not only did Paak highlight Miller's many career accolades and toss in a name-drop to the Mac Miller Circles Fund, but the rapper also used the eulogy as a means to show real, unscripted love to his friend. "Mac Miller was a humble rock star. He was a rapper's rapper, he was an actor, a comedian, a musical genius, a heartthrob. Mac Miller was a brother, he was my friend. I loved him and I still love him," he continued.

Lil Pump Opens The Show With Medley (And Gucci Mane)

Lil Pump opened the two-hour ceremony with a medley performance that even involved Gucci Mane. After starting with "Esskeetit," the rising rapper surprised the audience and brought out the icy king for their collaboration "Kept Back." But the number wouldn't have felt appropriate if he didn't close out with "Gucci Gang," and that was just the opening number. 

Erykah Badu Makes A Cypher Appearance

After freestyling from rising MCs Bri Steves, Neelam Hakeem, Sharaya J, and Chika, Erykah Badu made it clear that she was much more than just the DJ for the all-female cypher. With some minor instrumentation, the famed Neo-Soul singer worked her way through some fiery bars, spitting, “Boss and a worka, keep a tight circle/ Last name Badu, first name Erykah,” she spit. Never underestimate the power of Ms. Badu!

T.I. Performs His Latest Singles

T.I. also took to the stage with a performance of is Dime Trap single “Wraith” with Yo Gotti, as well as "Jefe," which featured an all-too-appropriate female Mariachi band and flamenco dancers.

Y.G. Hits The Stage With A$AP Rocky 

When it came to military themes, YG also hopped on the theme, emerging from a U.S. Army Jeep in red and black camo. For his number, he brought A$AP Rocky to perform "Handgun" off his recently released Stay Dangerous anthem. 

Lil Baby & Gunna Perform Their Mega-Hit 'Drip Too Hard'

Capitalizing off the release of their joint mixtape, Drip Harder, Lil Baby and Gunna teamed up to rep for the A, with a medley of Baby's Drake-featured "Yes Indeed" and Gunna's Travis Scott-assisted "Yosemite." And while they showcased their own personal accolades, all came together for the pair when a number of lingerie-rocking models took the stage for their finale of "Drip Too Hard."
